Margin Squeezed, Bakrie Telecom Posts Rp41 Billion Loss in Q1

Theindonesiatoday.com – PT Bakrie Telecom (BTEL) Tbk posted net loss of Rp41.12 billion in the first quarter of 2011 against net profit of Rp29 billion in the same period last year due to squeezed margin.

Bakrie Telecom reported net operating revenues of Rp717.94 billion in the quarter, inched up 1.27% from Q1/10, while operating expenses increased 16.5% to Rp704.96 billion.

As a result, Bakrie Telecom booked operating profit of Rp12.96 billion only, slashed 87% from Rp102.5 billion it booked in Q1/10.

Financing charges also surged 127% to Rp200.5 billion. The company was helped by Rp115 billion non-cash gain on foreign exchange translation.

Bakrie Telecom said the company will increasingly focusing on broadband wireless access. The company claimed to have invested US$400 million to expand capacity and develop broadband technology in the period of 2009-2010.

Bakrie Telecom had total customer of 13.6 million as at March 31, 2011, increased 23.2% from last year. (Theindonesiatoday.com)
